Leadership Lake
County~~~ History Day

October 10th
was the Class of 2008’s
first program day of the
year. The Lake County
Historical Society
Executive Director,
Kathie Purmal, and Board
Chair, Karen Sawitke,
helped plan this day and
it was outstanding.
History Day is always a
favorite because we take
the time to stop at
those places we pass
everyday because we are
too busy…..the Kirtland
Temple, Historic
Kirtland, Mooreland
Mansion, the Fairport
Harbor Lighthouse, and,
of course, the Lake
County History Center.
Class
members start the day
with Kathie’s “Western
Reserve” session which
explains much of who we
are today. Class
members participate in a
day full of interesting
facts about Lake
County’s early days and
how important these
facts continue to be
today. At lunch the
Class members had the
opportunity to tour the
site of the Lake County
Historical Society’s new
home, the former Lake
County Home, in
Painesville Township.
Understanding Lake
County’s rich history is
integral for community
leaders to be effective.
Leadership Lake County
History Day gives an
excellent local history
lesson to class members.
