SS KIDS Project – Service Project

“SS KIDS” (School Supplies for Kids) is the ongoing joint service project of the Leadership Lake County Youth Program and The Salvation Army of Painesville, Ohio. Initiated by Leadership Lake County Adult Alumni in 2000, the purpose of SS KIDS is to collect and distribute school supplies to as many economically disadvantaged students in Lake County as possible. Much of the funds and supplies used to support this project are raised and collected by the high school participants in the Leadership Lake County Youth Program – it is truly “kids helping kids.” The LLC Youth Program classes have been raising an average of $8,500 a year in addition to supplies collected for the past several years. In addition, multiple community organizations collect supplies to put toward the effort. This provides school supplies to over 1,700 children in 68 Lake County schools. This project would not be possible without the strong community collaboration that has evolved over the years.
