SS Kids- Leadership
Lake County Youth Program Project in partnership with
the Painesville Salvation Army.
Each year the Leadership Lake
County Youth program works to collect money and school
supplies in support of the SS KIDS project. This
project provides school supplies to children with
economic need in our community. The class of 2007
worked to serve over 1500 students this school year.
Each year the number of requests continues to grow.
There are many ways that you can help this effort.
Click
here to see a complete list of what the Class of 2007
distributed this year!!
1) Conduct a supply drive at
your business or organization. (The most limited
supplies are glue sticks, scissors, large pink erasers,
and highliter markers)
2) Volunteer to help
coordinate a drive at a local church. (Many
churches are willing to conduct drives, but are in need
of someone who will pick up the supplies and deliver
them to the warehouse in Willoughby)
3) Make a cash donation- we
are able to provide a comprehensive set of school
supplies for a student for only $10.
4) Donate boxes. We are
in need of large sturdy boxes to store supplies through
the year.
5) Help pack in
August. We will be packing from 9 am until 3 pm on
Tuesday August 12th, and from 5 pm until 8 pm on
Wednesday August 13th. We also need volunteers to
help with distribution on Friday August 15th from 9 am
until 3 pm.
Lake County YMCA
Minority Achievers program
The YMCA's Minority
Achievers program is a national program that was
implemented at the Lake County YMCA two years ago.
Currently there are approximately 40 minority students
participating in this program. You can help support this
program by allowing the group to visit your business as
a part of their career exploration. The students
also meet two Saturdays a month to explore a specific
career through "career clusters". If you are
interested in facilitating a career cluster, or hosting
a visit, you can contact Evan Mendez, program
coordinator at
emendez@lakecountyymca.org.
