History day this year was a fascinating experience.
I did not realize who rich the history of Lake County was. We began
our day at The History Center where I learned the origin of our county's
name and what the phrase "the western reserve" refers to. We had the
opportunity to tour the museum ( I didn't even know there was a history
museum in Lake County.) and explore the music box display.
While we were there we were given the opportunity to
settle an area and role play using historic artifacts. It was
interesting.
When we left The History Center, we had the opportunity
to visit Historic Kirtland. I have driven by it hundreds of times and
did not how much it meant to thousands of people across the world. Our
tour guides took us through all of the buildings and explained to us the
importance of this project to their faith.
We finished our day by listening to Mayor Anderson about
the recent history of downtown Willoughby. He told us how Gavi's came
to town. It was a perfect end to the day when we traveled to Scooter's
ice cream store in Willoughby and finished the day with a sundae.
I thought the history day would be my least favorite.
However, I really enjoyed it and learned more than I could have ever
imagined. |
