Leadership Lake County Youth Programs

The High School Program

The LLC Youth Program provides high school juniors a unique opportunity to get a behind the scenes look at Lake County while developing their leadership skills.

Students come together the first Wednesday of each month to explore a specific aspect of Lake County such as history, business, and public safety and justice.  Each program day is a combination of on site visits, guest speakers and experiential learning experiences.  In addition, students plan and implement a project to support SS KIDS, a project to provide school supplies to students with economic need.  For more information, click here.

Thirty-

Sixth Grade Junior Leadership Academy

The Junior Leadership Academy is open to any sixth grade student who would like the opportunity to work on achieving a goal related to school or a career.  Students meet and work the first Saturday morning or January, February, March and April.  The students work in small groups with high  successful high school mentors whom have graduated from the High School program.  For more information, click here.

SS KIDS

The LLC Youth classes work each year to collect and distribute school supplies to students with economic need.  Students are responsible for creating and implementing a project that will either raise funds or generate supplies for this project.  Leadership Lake County partners with the Salvation Army, Ladies and Gentlemen Salon and Spa, and Ad-Vance Advertising each year. Currently supplies are distributed through the schools and through the Salvation Army in Painesville.  In the summer of 2007, over 1500 students were served.

Class of 2009

The class of 2009 is complete!  All 35 members have submitted their paperwork and have received their "special assignments" for the program year. Please remember to read "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens" before you come to the retreat in September.  You will be asked to participate actively in discussions centered around the book.

Also, don't forget to email me your time slots for supply packing and distribution this summer.  It would be most helpful if students were able to help the week of August 11th at the Salvation Army in Painesville.  We will be working Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday of that week from 9am until 3pm.  On Wednesday we will be working from 4pm until 8:30 pm.

I understand that some of you have conflicts during that week.  You can consider the following dates and times as alternatives.  You must let me know ahead of time when you are planning on coming. I will only be working from the supply storage site as long as there are volunteers there to work.  (The evening before does not constitute ahead of time.)

Tuesday July 15th 2pm until 5pm

Wednesday July 16th 11am until 1pm

Monday July 21st 2pm until 5pm

Wednesday July 23rd 4pm until 7pm

Tuesday July 29th 4 pm until 7pm

Holly Nubert, Class of 2008, was featured in the News Herald last week.  Holly has been selected to participate in a Medical Leadership Forum to be held this summer.  With the help of her family and friends, Holly has been holding a series of fundraisers in an attempt to secure the money needed to participate in the program.  Her next event is Saturday June 7th, at the Stadium Grill in Mentor. She is holding a spaghetti dinner which begins at 4:00 pm.  You can purchase tickets at the door or by calling 440-357-0966

The class of 2008 graduated in May.  Above are some of the class members at the final retreat.  We look forward to hearing from the students next year as they decide where they will be in fall of 2010.
