Youth Programs
The High
School Program
The LLC Youth Program provides high school juniors a unique opportunity to get a behind the scenes look at Lake County while developing their leadership skills.
Students come together the first Wednesday of each month to explore a specific aspect of Lake County such as history, business, government, and public safety and justice. Each program day is a combination of on-site visits, guest speakers and experiential learning experiences. In addition, students plan and implement a service project to develop and exercise their leadership skills and have a positive impact on the community.
Sixth Grade
Junior Leadership Academy is open to any sixth grade student in Lake County who would like the opportunity to work on achieving a goal related to school or a career, develop communication skills, problem solving, and working with others. These are all skills that are necessary to being successful after high school. Students meet once a month (Saturday mornings) of January, February, March and April, and a Monday in May. The students work in small groups with successful high school mentors whom have graduated from the LLC Youth Program.
SS KIDS Project
The on-going service project of the LLC Youth classes for the past 10 years has been the SS KIDS Project where they work each year to collect and distribute school supplies to students with economic need – led by students to serve students. LLC students are responsible for creating and implementing a project that will either raise funds or generate supplies. Over 6000 students have received supplies since the beginning of this project. Leadership Lake County partners with the Salvation Army to distribute supplies to families with economic need throughout our county. In the summer of 2009, nearly 1,700 students were served. The Youth Class of 2010 raised nearly $9,000 and many boxes of supplies which will be packed and distributed to families in August.
